[...] Verlonge, Dem Boyz & ACS Jam Present: Super Jam 2009@Oceana … [...]
To whom it may concern;
On the Tuesday the 28th of January there was an event at Oceana Birmingham, Super Jam. There were coaches coming down from all parts of England to attend.
On the night in question I would say that there were hundreds of people, so much they were spilling into the street. When I arrived there around 21:30 I witnessed two security watching the mass of people. As the time went on and the queue going quite slow, more and more people arrived and started pushing in from all angles. The effect of this was that people started to fall over, were being hit in the face and items dropping on the floor (which at that point, because of the mass of people, was hard to reach or even find). When I looked to see were the security was, to try and calm the crown, again I only saw two and they were just standing looking at the commotion. I tried talking to one of them saying that people were getting hurt and if the security located at the back of the queue could calm the people down as if they kept pushing the people in the front would keep falling. He rudely said to me that there was nothing the security could do and they were just standing to keep order (which to be honest they weren’t doing). I almost made it to the door when a coach load of people that just arrived gathered in the front and tried to push all the people back. Again the security did nothing. I had to leave as when I tried talking to the security again they kept ignoring me and my freinds and at that point my shirt was ripped and bag torn. I decided that if I come back at a later time that the crown would have calmed down. To my surprise when I arrived back an hour later it was even worse but at this time over 50 police were there accompanied by dogs. The crowd was still pushing and swaying and I felt unsafe even standing on the pavement.
I am accustom to attending events at this club and your own events and never have I witnessed this scene before. The security appeared not to be doing anything and for a big event like this, in my opinion, the police should of been called earlier or even been with the security at the start of this event. It was very appaling how things were handled and the fact that people paid money for these tickets and some like myself could not get inside, not due to us but for our safety, is ridiculous.
I am aware that my ticket is non-refundable but some kind of response or compensation is necessary for the events that took place.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully this situation is rectified for future events
Hi Karleen
I will make sure that your message is passed on to the promoter. I’m really surprised to hear this as there usually is never any trouble at these events. Sounds to me that the club didn’t allocate enough security to the event. Will try and get you a response as soon as poss.
Controller
Thank you very much
